Service Policies

Satisfaction & Warranty

We take pride in our work and aim for every customer to be satisfied. If you experience an issue related directly to workmanship, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your pen so we can review the concern.

Completed restorations are covered by a limited one-year workmanship warranty, which applies only to the specific repairs performed. This warranty may include failures of replacement sacs or internal mechanisms installed during service.

This warranty does not cover:

  • Normal wear and aging of vintage materials
  • Pre-existing structural weaknesses or hidden defects
  • Damage caused by misuse, accidental drops, exposure to moisture, ink corrosion, rust, or improper handling after return
  • Repairs or adjustments performed by third parties after service

Due to the age and fragile nature of vintage fountain pens, no restoration can be guaranteed to permanently resolve all issues, and cosmetic or functional limitations may remain.

Unrepairable Pens & Bench Fee

In some cases, a pen may be deemed unrepairable after evaluation or partial disassembly due to material failure, corrosion, or structural instability.

  • A non-refundable bench fee of $35 applies to all pens that cannot be repaired
  • This fee covers diagnostic time, disassembly, and assessment
  • The bench fee applies regardless of whether the pen is returned assembled or partially disassembled

In the rare event that a pen is damaged during the restoration process as a direct result of mishandling on our part, compensation may be considered and will be limited to the amount paid for the service, excluding shipping.

Risk Acknowledgement

By submitting a pen for restoration, you acknowledge that:

  • Vintage pens may contain weakened, brittle, or degraded materials
  • Restoration work inherently carries some risk due to age and prior use
  • Functional improvement, not perfection, is the goal of restoration

Tim’s Tines is not responsible for failures resulting from unavoidable material fatigue or latent defects revealed during normal restoration procedures.

Shipping & Insurance

  • Return shipping is insured for up to $100 by default
  • Additional insurance coverage is available upon request and at the customer’s expense
  • Tim’s Tines is not responsible for loss or damage beyond the insured value once the package is in the carrier’s possession

Customers are responsible for safely packaging pens when shipping them to us.

Returns & Refunds

Because services are custom and labor-based:

  • Completed restoration services are non-refundable
  • Shipping costs are non-refundable
  • Refunds, if approved, are limited to the original service charge
